Atlanta Falcons Shock the World by Defeating Green Bay Packers

ATLANTA- The Green Bay Packers took a devastating loss to the Atlanta Falcons this past Sunday in the Georgia Dome sending, the Atlanta Falcons to Super Bowl LI.

The Atlanta Falcons have not seen a Super Bowl since their first appearance in Super Bowl XXIII in 1999 where they lose to the Denver Broncos.

The Falcons are usually considered the underdogs during the football season and were not expected to win the NFC Championship. In 2012, the Falcons had the same opportunity to attend the Super Bowl but lost to the San Francisco 49ers 34-19.

However, with their 44-21 win over the Green Bay Packers, the Falcons are not only the NFC South Champions and have a spot in Super Bowl LI, they won the last game hosted in the Georgia Dome before the opening of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the 2017 football season.

Not only was the game outcome a shocker but Green Bay’s performance was not the best. They were down 24-0 by halftime, claiming three players injuries were the blame for their lacking performance.

According to Head Coach Dan Quinn and the Atlanta Falcons, it is “Brothership” that has got them this far.

“Not every year the team is the same, so for this team to connect as they have, the unconditional support they have for each other, it's legit. You can feel it,” Quinn said. “I knew for us to play at our best, we’d have to be really close in the locker room, and that carries over on the field.

The Atlanta Falcons will face the New England Patriots Feb. 5 in Houston for Super Bowl LI. Tom Brady being a five-time Super Bowl champion makes the Falcons winning the Super Bowl seem difficult, but not impossible.

Being a Falcons fan has its exciting moments and disappointment. Hopefully, they will defeat the Patriots causing another shocker in the media, and starting a new season in Mercedes-Benz dome as Super Bowl Champions.

#OscarsSoConfusing

The Moonlight mix-up wasn't the only thing that caught me off guard at the Oscars.

If you missed it, during the Best Movie announcement, Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty miscalled the winner of the award.

Dunaway confidently blurted out "La La Land" as the winner of Best Picture when it was in fact "Moonlight."

"I wasn't trying to be funny," Beatty explained.

I saw moonlight, and I believe it was a great movie, but when compared to "Hidde Figures" which was also in the category, I was confused at "Moonlight's" win.

In my opinion, 'Hidden Figures' was a great untold story about three African-American women who played an influential role in NASA getting the first man into space.

Moonlight, also a great story, told the tale of a young man getting picked on all of his life in the midst of battling with his sexuality.

I haven't seen 'La La Land,' or any other movie in the category, but I when comparing the two I did see, I don't believe the best movie won.

I expressed my thoughts to a close friend of mine, and she explained to me why Hidden Figures didn't win.

According to her, the award Best Picture is exactly that; it's looking at how well the scenes in the movie told the story.

'Moonlight' did have a lot of great scenes and minimal scripting, but I am stuck on the storyline of 'Hidden Figures,' and I believe the scenes also matched that story.

Overall, I am happy for the success of 'Moonlight.'

It had an all black cast, and for it to win an Oscar, let alone Best Picture, in an Academy full of older white men.

So to reference Octavia Spencer, an actress from 'Hidden Figures,' a win for one is a win for us all.
